Doing the Research
Why it’s Important to Research the Company Before the Interview
One sure fire and easy way to get any interview off to a good start is to research the company ahead of time. Almost every interviewer will ask you what you know about the company. The way you respond to this question can and will set the tone for the entire interview.
This question may come in a variety of ways. They may ask how you perceive the company’s position in the industry, who their main competitors are, what competitive advantage they may have, or simply what do you think about the company. This makes it important to not only check out their website, but also to see what the internet has to say about them.
Do they have any reviews from clients or employees? Glassdoor.com can be an excellent resource to see what current and previous employees have to say about their experiences. Do they have a Facebook page? Often times there are customer reviews on Facebook from customers. Type their name into Google and see what pops up.
Lastly, be sure you understand the industry they work in. Be able to speak generally about their business and the services they offer. This will show you are invested in them and willing to put the extra effort in to get the job done.
At the end of the day, do the research. Take the time to understand what you are walking into and be educated about who you are talking to. This will start your interview off on a positive note and give you the courage and reassurance to have a great interview experience. Best of luck to you!
